The integration of critical thinking in the French school curriculum is at the heart of educational concerns. For a better understanding of critical thinking, the aim of this study will be to analyze its relationship with fluid and crystallized intelligence. Following an in-class intervention to measure the effectiveness of teaching critical thinking in school (conducted in a previous experiment), 5th grade children completed a vocabulary scale and a matrix scale.

Although Critical Thinking Education is strongly encouraged, there are few controlled studies on its effectiveness, especially in the case of young children (Pasquinelli et al., 2020, 2021). Some authors are skeptical that critical thinking education can give what it promises (Willingham, 2007). Moderate optimism comes from recent meta-analyses, which find significant impact for interventions that can broadly described as “teaching to think”, “teaching to read, understand, and...

We have found that the local density of states fluctuations (LDOSF) in a disordered metal, detected using an impurity in the barrier as a spectrometer, undergo enhanced (with respect to SdH and dHvA effects) oscillations in strong magnetic fields, omega _c\tau > 1. We attribute this to the dominant role of the states near bottoms of Landau bands which give the major contribution to the LDOSF and are most strongly affected by disorder. We also demonstrate that in intermediate fields the LDOSF...

We present an experimental and theoretical study of electron tunnelling through quantum dots which focusses the attention on the amplitude of the current peaks as a function of magnetic field. We demonstrate that the amplitudes of the current peaks in the tunnelling spectra show a dramatically different behaviour as a function of the magnetic field, depending on the angular momentum of the dot state through which tunnelling occurs. This is seen in the non-monotonic behaviour of the current...

This article is from Molecular Cancer , volume 12 . Abstract Background: Due to frequent mutations in certain cancers, FGFR3 gene is considered as an oncogene. However, in some normal tissues, FGFR3 can limit cell growth and promote cell differentiation. Thus, FGFR3 action appears paradoxical. Results: FGFR3 expression was forced in pancreatic cell lines. The receptor exerted dual effects: it suppressed tumor growth in pancreatic epithelial-like cells and had oncogenic properties in pancreatic...

This article is from Malaria Journal , volume 10 . Abstract Background: The choice of appropriate artemisinin-based combination therapy depends on several factors (cost, efficacy, safety, reinfection rate and simplicity of administration). To assess whether the combination dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) could be an alternative to artemether-lumefantrine (AL), the efficacy and the tolerability of the two products for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in sub-Saharan Africa...

This article is from PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases , volume 7 . Abstract Background: Cutaneous infection by Mycobacterium ulcerans, also known as Buruli ulcer (BU), represents the third most common mycobacterial disease in the world after tuberculosis and leprosy. Data on the burden of BU disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo are scanty. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence rate and the distribution of BU in the Songololo Territory, and to assess the coverage of the existing...
